We are currently looking for volunteers to fill roles for several of these programs, inquire at the library.

Healthy Acadia, in partnership with PML, has installed a year-round Storywalk® in the backyard of the library. The book selection, which is tied to the seasons, is changed each month. Recipe accompaniments will be available at the end of the walk!

August’s story is Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey. Thank you to Bluebird Ranch Family Restaurant for sponsoring this month’s Storywalk!

Library Checkout Brought to You

A library volunteer will come to your classroom to provide children with a library card, (caregiver’s signature is required) and the opportunity to check out books from Porter Memorial Library. Also, a volunteer can provide books on rotation for a classroom library.

Classroom Visits

Classes are invited to have a one-time visit or a regularly scheduled visit to the library. Plan your visit with Library Director Lee Downing at 207-255-3933.

Storytime at the Library

Tuesdays at 11:00 AM a volunteer or guest will read a story and provide a craft for children in the Children’s Library.

Children’s Library Garden

From planting seeds to harvesting, the Children’s Library will have a busy garden plot, during the growing season, where children can help care for the garden in the back yard at the library.

Book Reviews from the Children’s Library

Children are encouraged to share their reactions to library books from PML. Book Reviews will be posted in the Children’s Library and may also be submitted to Machias Valley News Observer.

Book Club

Age-appropriate Book Clubs will meet in the Children’s Library on a scheduled basis to discuss readers’ reactions to recommended books. Check with the library for dates and times.

Lego Time

Drop-in Lego play two Fridays of the month will begin in October. Watch for updates on time.

Art Shows

Display your art in the Children’s Library Art Shows! Homeschool and school-based art shows will be announced throughout the year.

STEM

The Children’s Library features Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) sessions monthly. Check the calendar or our Facebook page to find out more.

Summer Reading Program

The Children’s Library will sponsor a Summer Reading Program kicking off June 18th! Watch for updates in the season.
