Everybody who uses a computer knows it’s a luxery to consult with a human computer expert when you get stuck. Now you can make an appointment to meet one-on-one with computer expert, John Mitchell, at Porter Memorial Library on Wednesdays, starting November 29th, 2017.
After a break of several months, John’s popular and free program is being offered again every Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. by appointment only. Call the library at 255-3933 to sign up for a one-hour slot, or walk in and ask for the sign-up sheet.
New Computer Help Books
To help with certain computer questions when John isn’t here, the library has just purchased two books by author Michael Miller, “My Facebook for Seniors”, and “My Social Media for Seniors”. The books will be available for patrons to borrow.
First Graders from Machias Rose Gaffney School visit the Children’s Library.
The course is open for boys and girls ages 10-14.
Explore MIT’s SCRATCH programming learning about computer science while having fun. Participants will learn how to program interactive stories, games and animations – be a part of a weekly challenge and share creations safely with others online. The ability to code computer programs is an important part of literacy in today’s society. When people learn to code in SCRATCH, they learn important strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas.
Participants will need an email address to create a SCRATCH account. Participants are asked to bring a laptop as limited numbers are available.

School Vacation Week Kid’s Workshop: Kids use household objects to construct fun percussion toys to take home and make music with. We will explore building basic percussion such as shakers, basic hand drums, small talking drums rainsticks and shakers. Open to all ages. FREE

Kid’s use old clothes, old socks, and yarn, buttons and recycled goods to construct unique sock puppets to take home. Making sock monsters and sock zombies will be explored. Open to kids of all ages.
Participants will explore the world of Central American Molas by making their own story clothes using cut and glued felt to make these colorful South American fabric squares. Open to all ages. FREE
