Follow climate scientist and author David Goodrich as he rides his bike to the Western Interior Seaway, where an ancient ocean once spread over half of North America. Goodrich will talk about his new book, A Voyage Across an Ancient Ocean: A Bicycle Journey Through the Northern Dominion of Oil, and give a ground-level tour of the tar sands and oil shale deposits that are now experiencing a “black goldrush” of destructive, fossil fuel extraction.
Avid bicyclist David Goodrich worked at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and served as Director of the UN Global Climate Observing System in Geneva, Switzerland before deciding to ride his bike to a place where climate change comes from.
This Earth Day virtual event, A Conversation with David Goodrich, is hosted by 350 Downeast, with Porter Memorial Library.
